In The Man with a Flower in the Mouth, Pirandello tackles the theme of imminent death through the drama of a man who decides to distance himself from life and also from his wife who represents the past, memories and life itself.
Lucrezia Lante della Rovere gives voice to the mute woman that the Sicilian master has only hinted at, a woman to whom the only thing left is to "attach herself to life with her imagination" trying not to let her husband go.
