Crying. The five performers of Stuporosa cry for no reason apparently, thus creating an act of crying that takes on various forms, first contained, then suppressed, then a form of music, then it turns into hope, then a song that emulates the sounds of an ancient funeral lament of Salento. Their bodies fall into pieces as they seek archaic, distant shapes that are lost and disappear instantly. These shapes are figures of pathos, archetypical images of human suffering that have been passed on over time over centuries and civilisations, images belonging to funeral rites of the past that nevertheless have a universal value, because ever since they were created, human beings have always experienced suffering the same way. The five dancers try to regain a sense of community, a ritual, to establish new forms of mutual support, by whispering ancient magic spells, conjuring up traditional dances and singing a lullaby from Salento.

In Stuporosa, like in a way in ritual crying, there is a stylisation of pathos, it is stripped of its hysterical aspect. The performance itself seeks to be an invitation to think about the state of grief, the human need for a shared cultural institution, a community ritual, also to overcome times of individual crisis.

Francesco Marilungo, after studying Engineering and conducting research at the Von Karman Institute of Brussels, studied at Atelier Teatro Danza at the Paolo Grassi Theatre in Milan. Starting from 2010 he started working with internationally renowned choreographers such as Julie Anne Stanzak, Masaki Iwana, Yasmine Hugonnet, Jan Fabre and Romeo Castellucci. Over the years, he worked as a performer for Enzo Cosimi, Antonio Marras and Alessandro Sciarroni. He started growing as an author and sought a personal style that encapsulates performance, dance and visual arts. Paradise, the winner of the NEXT 2015/2016 call of Lombardy, was selected by Anticorpi XL for the 2016 Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore. Love Souvenir, in 2018, won the Inteatro Festival call and the 2017/2018 call of Lombardy. With Party Girl, he won the 2020 Prospettiva Danza award and the 2020 Cross Award and was selected for the 2021 NID Platform. Stuporosa made its première at the Short Theatre festival in Rome in September 2023 and started an international tour.
