I is another. Femina is the second episode of the three-year project I is Another, an ambitious project that seeks to translate into shapes thousands of names of the contemporary female world. A clear title that highlights the Company’s intention of turning its gaze towards the female universe. The Show was one of the finalists of the 2023 Ubu Awards in the “Best Dance Show” category.

With a fake costume and minimal movements, the flow takes us to the game of female identity, making the four characters more female-like, more male-like and shaking them up. Separation and incorporation of self and other: two extremes, two physical places on the opposite banks of the same river. Working with their own appearance they mirror each other returning mirrored movements, compressed and coated by a sound accompaniment that magnetises and flows without any real interruption or space for melody but only for the dryness of rhythm. Femina is the scenic space of translation and hallucination of possible shapes and names of the woman and female contemporary world.

Abbondanza Bertoni Company Following their experience at the Alwin Nikolais School in New York, their studies in France with Dominique Dupuy, along with the “poetic” improvisations by Carolyn Carlson, the study and practice of zen, Michele Abbondanza (co-founder of the Sosta Palmizi group and instructor at the Theatre School at the “Piccolo di Milano”) and Antonella Bertoni founded the Abbondanza/Bertoni Company, which is considered one of the most prolific artistic companies of the Italian scene owing to their creations, training and pedagogical activities and dissemination of contemporary dance theatre.
