amən is a performance: it is the result of an attempt to describe how social and cultural norms influence and impact our bodies.
Starting from the Hebrew word “amen” – whose meaning is “to be certain, true” – the work seeks the relationship between the body and its authenticity, the interaction between appearance and truth. Where does the impact of one’s upbringing and culture end, and where does each person’s nature begin?
Ranging from at times dramatic and at times ironic tones, this choreographic work explores themes related to identity and our relation with those different from us, so as to challenge the two categories that determine our role in society: namely “male” and “female”.
In an attempt to unveil the plurality of masculinity and femininity, and the multiple aspects of what is male and female in each one of us, through the languages of dance, sound and video projections, this work is like a prayer, a journey within ourselves.

Emanuele Rosa and Maria Focaraccio together created EM+, a project of choreography practices.
Their first work, entitled HOW TO _ just another Boléro (2021) is the project that won the 2021 Call from the Aisle, selected at the 2021 Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore and the 2023 dFeria – San Sebastián.
The second work by EM+, all you need is (2022), won the 2022 TWAIN Direzioni Altre Award, the People’s Choice Award at the 2024 Les Lendemains qui dansent and was selected at the 2022 Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore.
In 2023 Emanuele and Maria were selected as artists of ResiDance XL – actions of the Anticorpi Network with the amən project. That same year they joined the Crossing the Sea project and were invited to the Visiting section of the European project titled Big Pulse, as part of the Tanec Praha Festival. In 2024 EM+ was selected for the choreography residence programme Étape Danse.
