With a book by Robert Horn, who won a Tony Award for this title, and music and lyrics by David Yazbek, who also wrote another great success such as "The Full Monty", "Tootsie" is ranked as one of the best comedies of all time in the list drawn up by the American Film Institute and acclaimed as "The Funniest Musical on Broadway!" (The New York Post), in addition to having received an incredible 11 nominations for the Musical Academy Awards (Tony Award), including that for Best Musical and Best Original Score.

But Michael's story, thanks also to the sparkling relationship with his alter-ego Jeff, also offers the opportunity to reflect on important themes, such as love and relationship between the sexes, the identity and role of women in society, the genius and courage to take risks to earn an opportunity to emerge. The final phrase that the chameleon Dustin Hoffman addresses to his beloved in a desperate attempt to "justify" his exchange of identities is very famous: "I have been a better man to you as a 'woman' than I have been to other women as a 'man'".
