At Home with Us – The rebirth of Theaters for the citizens of the Veneto Region

At home with us is a project of theatrical residency developed by the City of Vicenza Civic Theater Foundation, in collaboration with Arteven – the Multidisciplinary Regional Circuit, and with the Theater Company of the Veneto Region, supported and financed by the Veneto Region to “relaunch” the system of live entertainment throughout the regional territory after the forced closure of the theaters in the months of the health emergency.

8 theatrical companies active in the Veneto Region have been selected to work in residence at 8 theaters in 8 cities in the region to offer the public, when the theaters reopen, 24 events of live entertainment (new productions, repertory titles, guest productions), as well as other events exploring the creative processes that go into new productions and the value of artistic practice as a builder of reaction and resilience.

The project (November 2020 – June 2021) has given birth to a new model, from the institutional standpoint, calling attention to the function of the regional theatrical system while fully respecting local independence and functions, at the service of the citizen and spectator in the Veneto Region. From the standpoint of operations, it uses an integrated system combining real and virtual, flanking the work of planning and preparation of the artists, which is pursued live, under safe conditions in the theaters, with the support and implementation of a continuous relationship with the spectators, made possible by the digital platforms. It uses online formats to connect to the actions planned as live events, creating content so that what is offered on line can serve as the “first act”, an integral part of the subsequent live event, as soon as that becomes possible.

Artistic coordinator of the At home with us project, realized as part of the Program Agreement pursuant to Veneto Regional Law no. 7 of Feb. 22, 1999 - art. 51, to return “in absolute safety to a normal life, in our culture and with our culture”, is Giancarlo Marinelli, writer and director.
