Operetta in three acts by Victor Léon and Léon Stein, with live orchestra

The Merry Widow has always been the first and most important title in the history of operetta. The world premiere took place in Vienna in 1905 and brought Franz Léhar to worldwide fame.
This title has gone through a century of profound changes, yet its success has never faded and is renewed in the third millennium. Suffice it to say that this operetta is still one of the most performed titles in the Theater Seasons around the world.
Paris, early twentieth century. At the Embassy of Pontevedro, the birthday party of the beloved Sovereign is taking place. Attention is however focused on the arrival of the young, beautiful and rich widow of the Court banker, Hanna Glavari, whose charm, combined with the immense inheritance, has bewitched many noble Parisian lords.
For reasons of state, he must find a husband for the rich heiress, and the fact that the candidate for this task is none other than Danilo, a man of life, certainly does not make the plan of the Pontevedrini diplomats any easier.
The Compagnia Teatro Musica Novecento presents a new 2020 production, designed as scenography and costumes by Artemio Cabassi, a name known throughout Europe, who collaborates with the major opera houses (Teatro Regio di Parma, Sferisterio di Macerata, Politeama di Lecce, Gran Colon di Barcellona).
Our cast also boasts such a vocal quality that it can represent such a demanding title even in the major opera houses.
The direction is by Alessandro Brachetti (who also plays the acrobat Niegus), who with his usual grace and respect for the libretto, adds a note of freshness and chorality to this masterpiece.
The live orchestra, conducted by Stefano Giaroli, is a must, completing this unmissable appointment with a smile and good music.
