In the winter months when the moon is full or almost, its light may be refracted by ice crystals in the high clouds of the troposphere, thus generating a halo of light around the satellite.
Sometimes two small luminous arches may also appear on the sides, mirrored figures with the classic rainbow color scale commonly called ‘moon dogs’. The moon has always occupied an important place in popular beliefs and magic. In "Storia Notturna" Carlo Ginzburg reveals a close connection between magical practices and female ecstatic cults dedicated to a nocturnal goddess with many names often identified with Diana. Cults that seem to derive from a remote Eurasian substratum and in which shamanic themes such as ecstasy, magical flight and metamorphosis into an animal recur. From this suggestion that Cani Lunari was born. A choreographic reflection on a figure that has always been marginal in society but that continues to reproduce itself over time with common traits and uniformity - that of the witch, the healer, the Magyar, as she is called in Southern Italy. Also for this project the choreography will be accompanied by the music of Vera Di Lecce, who blends field recordings, electronic sounds and ritual formulas, creating a sound dimension suspended between the natural and the supernatural. The costumes, inspired by the testimonies of alleged witches in historical trials, will be white embroidered dresses, recalling the mysterious "bone dominae", female spirits of popular tradition.
