Mozart had made a promise in his heart and the best proof of this promise is - as he wrote in a letter to his father - "the score of a Mass still waiting to be completed". It is the Mass in C minor, a grandiose but at times tender and sweet sacred masterpiece: a sort of votive offering to overcome the adversities that stood in the way of marriage with Constanze and at the same time a auspicious wedding gift to a woman who perhaps never understood her genius, but on the other hand he had "the kindest heart in the world".
