The tale of the beautiful Melusina, a fantastic creature half girl and half fish, struck the romantic soul of Mendelssohn, who dedicated the most perfect of his overtures to her. Another fictional story – the one between Pelléas and Mélisande – is the background to a touching page by Fauré. The Scottish Symphony, on the other hand, was born from the suggestions of a journey.
