The Wild Father by Pier Paolo Pasolini is only a sketched screenplay, begun in 1962 and published posthumously in the fateful 1975. It is the story of Davidson, a sensitive and acute young Liberian who meets a progressive and tormented teacher - a frontier figure, alter ego by Pasolini himself – who tries to give his students a modern and anti-colonialist education. The work focuses precisely on the conflict that inevitably develops between the teacher and Davidson, who is wary of the innovative method and culture of his teacher. At the heart of the contrast between the two figures there is obviously the relationship between whites and blacks, affected by the different conception of history and power relations. Pasolini thus addresses the themes of freedom and democracy but also the difficulty of understanding between apparently distant cultures and generations. The Friulian author's writing is short and intense, with a strong political as well as poetic value. A hybrid script that combines different codes and languages, thus developing great expressive potential. An indefinite form that reveals undoubted visual qualities that lend themselves to dance staging, in an irresistible vertigo between literary work and physical theater. Confident Frank was called to play Davidson, a talented young performer met by Balletto Civile during his work in the Modena area in autumn 2021. Alongside him, Maurizio Camilli, in the role of the teacher. Theirs is, therefore, a dialogue with two voices, each characterized by very distinct tones, colors and moods: those of the adult are softer, those of the boy more dynamic.
