In a concert that falls on Remembrance Day, listening to the Quartet for the End of Times has a particular flavor, even if Messiaen's masterpiece, written and performed for the first time in a Nazi prison camp, was not conceived as a denunciation of the horrors of that period. The combination with two authors such as Mahler and Schnittke is interesting.
