The 2019 edition of the New Conversations Festival - Vicenza “Beyond the Pillars of Hercules, in search of a new moon” the 24th edition of the successful review is devoted to the visionary travelers of the world of music, explorers of jazz, discoverer of new artistic lands. The title suggests great and unexpected concert goals, with a program and ranges from the divinity of Cuban music (Chucho Valdés) to the brightest stars of the Italian jazz firmament (Paolo Fresu, Mauro Ottolini and Fabrizio Bosso); it offers absolute firsts of great historic value (Enrico Rava-Michel Portal-Ernst Reijseger-Andrew Cyrille) alongside a “Night of the Oscars” of jazz (featuring winners of the Top Jazz award for 2018), big names in modern and contemporary jazz (Uri Caine, Peter Erskine, Shai Maestro, David Virelles and Ambrose Akinmusire), and an opening toward pop with Roy Paci's Aretuska.
Organized by the City of Vicenza and by the City of Vicenza Civic Theater Foundation, in coproduction with Trivellato Mercedes Benz and in collaboration with Bar Borsa, with the artistic direction of Riccardo Brazzale, the Festival takes on colossal dimensions: over 150 events, with the city offering its spaces to music, from the theaters to the churches, from the plazas to the streets, but also ancient palaces and museums, a magic moment in which countless jazz clubs and a great many night spots and pubs will be animated by music at all hours, until late at night. The format is the usual: concerts in the early evening at the Civic Theater, in Piazza dei Signori and in the majestic setting of the Olympic Theater, concerts at midnight in the cemeteries and, alongside the many live events, screenings of films, book presentations, seminars and masterclasses, exhibitions and conferences, poetic readings and, of course, the appointments at the Jazz Café Trivellato – Bar Borsa under the Palladian Basilica.
