Lisistrata is a new landing of Sogno di volare, the project of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii in collaboration with Ravenna Festival that saw Marco Martinelli (seven-time Ubu Prize winner) work on the comedies of Aristophanes with adolescents from the Vesuvian area.
Lisistrata was staged in Athens in 411 BC, while the war with Sparta and the political crisis gripped the city. Aristophanes once again breaks a lance for peace but, now convinced that men cannot be counted on, he entrusts his cause to a woman, Lisistrata (“she who dissolves armies”). While the men are at war, the women gather in secret called by Lysistrata who makes them participants in her plan: the re-establishment of peace. To achieve it, a simple action will be enough: the sex strike until the husbands lay down their weapons.
