In a bold journey into tragedy, Anagoor guided the third-year students of the Carlo Goldoni Theater Academy in exploring Euripides' Bacchae, immersing them in an experience that combines ritual, poetry, and theater. Through a research path on trance as a poetic and scenic tool, the work transforms into a profound reflection on the sense of identity and belonging to the community.
The Bacchae, suspended between ecstasy and subversion, become the bearers of a collective experience in which the boundaries between human and divine dissolve. Theirs is not just a celebration of otherness, but an act of transformation capable of questioning social conventions and power structures.
The ancient myth comes to life in a contemporary vision that questions our present, inviting a comparison with the primordial forces of existence and the metamorphic power of art. In this scenic rite, the theater becomes a place of initiation, a rite of passage in which the aesthetic experience has the transformative capacity of a spell. On stage is not the awakened forest of spring that in the Dionysian mystery becomes violent to question grace, but a nocturnal sabbath in which a group of boys immerse themselves to play theater once again and practice a spell on the audience. Pentheus and the spectator - as with all human beings and not - are destined for transformation. Better to know it. Those who do not know it and do not dance, do not know what happens and are overwhelmed by undergoing it.
Our retold Bacchae is therefore a magical healing practice for a sick and arid world, a devastated and wasted land, which passes through a spring of anger, fury and curses, a protest that asks to find what has been lost in the claim of identity, in the madness of supremacy that drags every political experience to failure.
