Pensaci, Giacomino! represents one of the works in which Pirandello manages to give substance with more intensity to a profound critique absolutely far from any temptations of those social conventions, of that hypocrisy, of those masks with which ordinary people disguise their lack of ethical principles.

Professor Agostino Toti, a high school teacher, is quite old and is discredited in the eyes of students and colleagues. Alone against everyone, he feels unable to continue teaching. Toti broods with resentment towards society as a whole. In order to obtain revenge against that State which he blames for his failure, he marries a very young girl, Lillina. Lillina is pregnant by a young man from the village, Giacomino, but this does not distract Toti from his intention, nor does it seem to disturb him too much.
