Greek singer Savina Yannatou is one of the most refined and innovative voices on the international music scene. Her repertoire spans traditional Mediterranean and Balkan music as well as contemporary and experimental works. She has collaborated with ensembles such as Primavera en Salonico and numerous contemporary composers. Her versatile and delicate voice, capable of moving effortlessly from folk singing to free improvisation, has earned her worldwide recognition as an interpreter of a unique and boundary-defying musical language.
Singer Savina Yannatou will be the star of the now historic concert at the Cimitero Maggiore in Vicenza. With her band Primavera en Salonicco, Yannatou will present songs from her latest album Water Songs, her fifth for the prestigious ECM label, at the festival. The album revolves around the theme of water and its many manifestations, traveling across geographies and historical eras, bringing together the Bedouin dialect with European languages, with Greek Christmas carols fading into the laments of southern Italy. It is, therefore, a sign of contamination and multiculturalism.
