The result of four years of research on the theme of the coexistence of two bodies with different abilities and perceptions, of an in-depth investigation into relationships, mutual support, and the acceptance of insurmountable limits while striving to overcome them, Brave stems from a strong desire that brings into action not only the bodies on stage but also a small community that welcomes and protects. There is no skill, no courage. There is determination and desire. There are two bodies that meet: one body that returns to the stage after a long absence, and one body that seeks a new way of being present on stage.
Paola Bianchi, choreographer and dancer, has been active on the contemporary dance scene since the late 1980s. She participates in national and international festivals with her shows. Attentive to the theorisation of bodily practices, in 2014 she wrote “Corpo Politico _ distopia del gesto, utopia del movimento” (Editoria&Spettacolo). In 2020, she won the Rete critica 9 e ¾ Award with ELP, a complex research project linked to an in-depth investigation of the body, the relationships between bodies and the cultural imaginaries of which bodies are repositories. In 2020, Teatro Akropolis produced “La parte maledetta. Viaggio ai confini del teatro. Paola Bianchi” (The Cursed Part. Journey to the Borders of Theatre. Paola Bianchi), a film project that recounts the choreographer's artistic career in the form of an interview.
Valentina Bravetti studied ballet for eight years and trained with Teatro Valdoca. In 2004, she founded the Città di Ebla company with Claudio Angelini, taking part in stage productions as a dancer; since 2006, she has been artistic co-director of the Ipercorpo Festival. She conceived and created the BraunEva project with Elisa Gandini. Since 2014, Valentina has had paraneoplastic neurological syndrome, which kept her away from the stage until 2021, when she began collaborating with choreographer Paola Bianchi. Valentina and Paola first collaborated in 2007 on the performance series Visioni irrazionali (Irrational Visions), as well as the recent collective photography project La mia pelle è teatro (My Skin is Theatre).
